Owner, Founder, and SAT Math Instructor
Meet our owner, founder, and favorite math teacher, Paul Schultz. Paul started MTAT in 1989. He’s been enthusiastically helping students outsmart the SAT ever since. Paul is still a full time school teacher as his “day job”. He is also a dedicated husband and father of four (if you don’t count his labradoodle or all of his students and staff). Be sure to say hi the next time you see Paul when you stop by our Westlake office.
Partial Owner, SAT Reading/Writing Instructor
Rob has been involved in education for the last 30 years as an administrator, classroom teacher, and test-prep instructor for More Than a Teacher. Along the way, he has been a featured speaker at national education conferences, a teacher trainer and mentor for new teachers, the recipient of the teacher-of-the-year award, a voiceover actor for commercials, a podcaster, and a writer of three novels. Rob loves to read, write, take part in any water-related activity, and spend time with his wife and two sons.
SAT, ACT Instructor and Director of College Essay Program
Patrick Ryan Frank has been a tutor and instructor at More Than a Teacher for over a decade. During that time, he’s worked with thousands of students, helping them hone their writing and testing skills, become more confident in their innate abilities, and discover the best paths forward. The author of two books and a former Fulbright Fellow to Iceland, Patrick spends much of his time eating tacos on patios while complaining about the Texas heat.
SAT and ACT Instructor, Director of Tutoring
Mattie Tyner has been teaching test prep at MTAT since 2007. She is the author of the MTAT SAT and ACT curriculums. Mattie has helped hundreds of students ace their tests and perfect their application essays. She has a B.A. in philosophy from the University of Texas, Austin. Her hobbies include cooking, camping, and playing piano.
College Advisor, Program Coordinator, Test Prep and Academic Instructor
Kim began at MTAT as a part-time test prep classroom instructor and private tutor in 2012, but she has been helping students master admissions testing since she was a high school student herself. Kim’s background is as a secondary Life Sciences teacher, with a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. She came on board with MTAT full-time when she took over as our College Advisor. Kim is passionate about helping students and families navigate the college admissions process with ease and confidence – her goal is always for students to surprise themselves with their own success and gain admission to their top choice colleges or post-high school programs. When she isn’t teaching classes throughout the Austin area, she loves to get away to the coast and get lost in a book or host a campout with friends and family.
SAT & ACT Instructor
Steph Watson has been a SAT and ACT tutor and instructor for over 10 years. She’s worked with countless students to increase their confidence both in content and strategy to be able to increase their scores and gain entrance to the school of their dreams. With an undergraduate degree from LSU in Mathematics, a masters degree in Math Education from UT Austin, and 10 years in the classroom teaching courses ranging from Algebra to Pre Calculus, her expertise are in math, but she enjoys helping students find success in all areas of the SAT and ACT tests. When she’s not teaching, you can find Steph at an Austin FC match with her husband or at the park or pool with her daughter (and another on the way!).

Katy Seloff has been tutoring and teaching with More Than A Teacher since 2016. She loves helping students become aware of their potential to do well on the SAT or ACT. Over the years, Katy has found a fondness for some rather unusual pets. In her free time, she enjoys playing with her pet rats and watching them explore their habitats.
SAT Instructor, Academic & College Essay Tutor
A recent graduate from the Plan II Honors Department at the University of Texas at Austin, with minors in Philosophy and Classics. Seth spent his initial few semesters pursuing an Astronomy degree alongside his Plan II major but ultimately favored studying under UT’s world-renowned philosophers and classicists. Seth completed his Plan II Thesis on the capacities of artificial intelligences to express creativity. His expertise lies in bridging one’s understanding of concepts from STEM fields with the liberal arts.
Academic Tutor, SAT Instructor
Christi has been working in education off and on for nearly 25 years. Currently she is teaching high school math and science. Christi is passionate about math and science education as well as working with neuro-divergent students and students with learning disabilities. When she’s not working with students, Christi loves to sew, garden, read, and play tennis.
SAT and ACT Math Instructor
Jeff Henson has been a teacher at Bowie High School for 31 years, teaching all levels of mathematics up to and including pre-calculus. He has been working as a math tutor/instructor at More Than a Teacher for over 10 years. While he teaches primarily on the Bowie campus, he has enjoyed the privilege of teaching MTAT math classes at other locations such as Dripping Springs, Vandegrift, Del Valle, Leander, Lake Travis, and Westlake. Jeff is looking forward to having the opportunity to travel and hopefully take in some soccer matches in Europe in the future.
College Essay Tutor
Megan Holden started tutoring at More Than a Teacher in 2022, but she has more than 15 years of experience helping students craft college essays that highlight their strengths while letting their personalities shine through. Over her quarter of a century career, she has taught all levels of English and French, AP Art History and GT Discovery. One of three finalists for Texas State Secondary Teacher of the Year in 2019, Megan enjoys making birthday cakes for her friends and cracking wise.
SAT ebrw Instructor
Veronica Solorzano has been a teacher for over 10 years and has a Master’s degree in English literature from the University of Dallas. She started teaching reading and writing/language classes for More Than A Teacher in 2018. The best part for her is reviewing grammar and sentence structure with students because they often say how it helps with their writing beyond the SAT. Outside of teaching, she runs an Etsy shop and spends time relaxing with her husband and daughter.
College Essay Tutor
Rachel Powell has been tutoring MTAT students since 2012, helping them craft compelling and polished essays to submit with their college applications. She loves learning their stories and getting to know them on their journeys. After graduating college with a BA in English, Rachel spent ten years drafting and editing local and federal government proposals. A lover of the Oxford Comma, she is always excited for the newest English reading or writing assignment her students bring her. Rachel recently attempted to foster a dog and failed immediately, adopting her within a month. With her newest addition, and the dog she already owned, Rachel spends much of her free time playing fetch and tug-of-war.

Philip Solorzano is a full time teacher of Geometry and Latin at Founders Classical Academy of Leander. He is pursuing a PhD in philosophy from the University of Dallas and is one dissertation away from becoming Dr. Phil. He started teaching math for More Than A Teacher in 2018 and enjoys helping students feel more confident taking the SAT. In his free time, he enjoys reading and spending time with his wife and three year old daughter.

Judd Pfeiffer has been with MTAT for over seven years. He instructs students in the Reading and Writing & Language Sections of the SAT. He also teaches Language Arts at James Bowie High School in Austin. He loves traveling, cooking, reading, sports, and spending time with his wonderful family.
SAT and Academic Tutor
Abhinav’s journey in higher education began at The University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated with honors with a major in Neuroscience. His favorite memories at UT include mentoring underclassmen as a Resident Assistant, Orientation Advisor, and Teaching Assistant for Biochemistry and Chemistry. Abhinav is currently a first-year medical student at Texas Tech University Health Science Center School of Medicine in Lubbock. In his free time, he enjoys working events as an EMT, tutoring, working out, and traveling.
Spanish and sat tutor/instructr
A second-gen West Lake Hills native, Caroline’s passion for Spanish led to her earning a minor in the discipline in college, later spending two years in Spain teaching English and honing her Spanish skills. She’s worked as a Spanish tutor since returning to the U.S. and is passionate about helping students of all ages improve not just their command of the language, but also their confidence putting it to use. In 2016, Caroline was honored by Austin Monthly as the Readers’ Choice for “Best Comedian.” She’s a firm believer that students learn best when they’re having fun.
Director of Student Outreach
Mary Jo Grant has been with MTAT helping students, parents, and schools for over 15 years. She started answering phones at the Westlake office in 2007 and now she oversees school relationships and presents test prep information to families all over Central Texas. Mary Jo loves meeting new people and helping them find solutions to make test prep and college planning less stressful and more fun. In her free time, you can find Mary Jo hiking with her Great Pyrenese or fishing on Lake Travis.

I’m eager to support students in reaching their educational aspirations. Outside the office, you’ll find me exploring hiking trails with my dog, Carl, or enjoying movie nights at the Alamo Drafthouse.

Kayla is a current undergraduate student at the University of Texas at Austin pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in English and minoring in International Business. In 2020, she became a Book Reviewer, familiarizing herself with various forms of literature and providing constructive feedback to authors. As a previous College Essay Advisor, she holds extensive experience in both College Admissions and Test Prep. In her free time, you may find her creating digital artwork or reading the latest fantasy novels.
Kayla joined MTAT to help make a difference in student’s lives and to assist guiding parents through the intricate process of preparing their students for a successful future.
Director of Operations
Amber has been a valuable member of MTAT since 2014. She oversees the logistics of our operation to ensure all of our programs are running smoothly. Amber strives to help each of our families find success within our programs. She loves seeing our students reach their goals and hearing about their plans beyond high school. She takes joy in knowing that what we do makes a difference. When not working, you can find Amber on the sidelines of her kids’ sporting events or experimenting in the kitchen (with a special affinity for baked goods and sweet treats)!
